The raw and vulnerable moments in the early days with a new baby aren’t always moments you cherish – often they are desperately tired, 3am, won’t latch, won’t sleep, postpartum sweat and pain and achy muscles and itchy stitches. I’m so honored when I’m asked to capture some of it in the studio, in the daylight. The moments that feel so intense are matched by their beauty when you see them on the outside – and the more time the passes, the more precious those moments become.
To me, this image is exactly what breastfeeding a newborn feels like. A clumsy, heavy head trying to latch, sticky skin-to skin, tiny feet kicking a soft belly and swollen, leaking breasts. When you know the feeling, you recognize it instantly.
