On October 26th at 6:34am, Zack and I welcomed our 9 pound baby boy.  Born at home in the water, his father’s hands were the first to hold him – guided by our amazing midwives. The last 3 weeks have been so beautiful and we have felt so loved by our friends and family!  Here are a few of his first portraits… many more to come!

My last portrait – 39 weeks!  Holden came 3 weeks later 🙂

I’m incredibly honored to get to document this beautiful family and I can’t wait to meet their sweet baby girl in just a couple of months 🙂

Until then, enjoy a few dozen of my favorites from their maternity session…

harper bailey | maryland newborn photographer

This precious little one visited the studio one month after her early debut, weighing in at just over 5 pounds.  Born almost 8 weeks early, Harper busted out of the NICU just 2 weeks later and has been growing and thriving ever since.  There’s no denying that her parent’s enormous love for her played a huge part!   Happy 1 Month, Harper!

S.  With any newborn, but especially a preemie, we take every precaution to be sure the studio and every piece of fabric, prop and backdrop are all completely clean and free of harsh chemicals that could irritate baby.  Safety is always the first priority in each session in posing, as well as preparing a clean space for the newest and most vulnerable babies!

though she be but little, she is fierce | maryland birth photographer

Just shy of 33 weeks, this tough little girl decided to choose her own birthday.  While the plan was for me to photograph her birth, she hardly gave enough notice for the doctor to be there to catch her – let alone to call the photographer.  Instead, I’ve had the joy of photographing her progress in the NICU until she headed home on her 2 week birthday.  Join me in welcoming Harper! Here are a couple (hundred) of my favorite images from her time in the hospital through when she went home.

Just shy of 24 hours old… You can tell what a scary time those first hours were!  Each parent got to meet her briefly before she was taken to the NICU for the best care possible.  It’s amazing to watch these moments unfold as they got to touch, then hold her for the first time.

Mom got to give her first feeding…Maryland Newborn Photographer 6 Maryland Newborn Photography 22

Then it was finally time to hold her!  The wires, tubes, and IV lines are intimidating.  The emotion is overwhelming.  But, after a few minutes all the fear melts into celebration and joy….Maryland Newborn Photographer 7 Maryland Newborn Photographer 9 Maryland Newborn Photographer 10 Maryland Newborn Photography 27 Maryland Newborn Photographer 11 Maryland Newborn Photographer 12 Maryland Newborn Photographer 13
